The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was established in 1949 as an international political-military organization to counter the real threat posed by the Soviet Union to Western Europe. The fundamental principle of the pact can be summarized by the maxim: "One for all, all for one."
In July 1997, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary were invited to join the alliance. The formal accession of our country to NATO took place on March 12, 1999.
