Rafael Santi was born in 1483 in Urbino, died on 6 April 1520 in Rome. He was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period. Santi's father was also a painter and he was the first teacher of his son. The atmosphere in Urbino influenced young Santiago, who became fascinated by art and Renaissance ideas of humanism. After the death of his father, Santi ran his studio in his hometown. Later, he moved to Florence and his painting career gained momentum. During this time, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo also worked in Italy. Their work was a source of inspiration for Santi.
In 1508 Pope Julius II hired an artist to make interior decorations in the Vatican. It was an important order for Santie, which gave him great prestige in the art world. The frescos that the painter created in Satanza della Segnatura are among his most famous works.
