22 May 2007. The National Bank of Poland introduced coins commemorating 750 years of Krakow's location.
On June 5th, 1257, the Duke of Krakow and Sandomierz Boleslaw Wstydliwy, together with his mother and wife, issued a document commemorating the location of the city of Krakow. It happened in Kopernia village. The bishop of Krakow and the dignitaries of Krakow and Sandomierz were witnesses to this event.
Kraków was founded under Magdeburg Law, on which Wrocław was founded. The document defined the rights and duties of the mayors and inhabitants of Krakow. Both of them received numerous consignments and periodic exemptions from paying rents and duties. The location document became the basis for the organisation of a medieval town municipality, with the hereditary mayor at the head and, over time, with the town council.
The reverse of the coin presents the image of the seal of Bolesław the Chaste. The obverse of the coin shows a fragment of the Barbican.
