The Personification of Freedom is an integral part of the history of the United States. An interesting fact is that the "American Eagle" is minted with an inverted stamp - the obverse is 180 degrees inverted to the reverse. The obverse of the coin depicts the personification of Liberty and Liberation, walking with the attributes of peace: an olive branch and a torch. At its feet you can see the seat of the U.S. Congress, and in the background, sunshine. On the reverse features an image of an Eagle, designed by Jennie Norris. This design is the first new design introduced since the series began in 1986! Additionally, the reverse features the Declaration of Independence maxims: "In God We Trust" and "E pluribus unum".
