Another coin from the "Celestial Beauty" series. This time it depicts Andromeda and the Sea monster.  Andromeda - in Greek mythology, an Ethiopian queen. Her mother boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids. The nymphs asked Poseidon to punish the queen for her hubris. The god sent Ketos, a sea monster, to her country. King Cepheus went to Ammon in the oasis of Siwa in the Libyan Desert to propitiate the gods. The oracle demanded that Andromeda be handed over as a sacrifice. When the people learned of this, they forced him to heed the oracle's advice. Andromeda was chained to a rock and left to die. At the last moment she was rescued by Perseus, returning from an expedition against the gorgon. Perseus killed the monster and took Andromeda as his wife.   Every detail is perfectly visible, thanks to the high relief.  The coin is struck from five ounces of pure silver.
