Struck in .9999 fine Silver, the Australian Silver bullion coin is a treasure for collectors and has proven to be popular worldwide since its release. The kangaroo is the most instantly recognizable wildlife symbol of Australia. The world's largest marsupial, females carry their infants around in their pouch for two months after being born. These young kangaroos, called joeys, will stay close to their mothers until about eight months of age. The reverse of the Silver Kangaroo coins features a classic red kangaroo mid-bound in front of a stylized star burst, designed by Dr. Stuart Devlin. The obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the “1 Dollar” denomination. As a Perth Mint first, the coin includes an authentication feature on the reverse in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter “A” within the first A of "Australia", and it is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
