He struggled with mental illness and was poor and practically unknown all his life. Vincent van Gogh has completed over 2100 works, consisting of 860 oil paintings and over 1300 watercolours, drawings and sketches. In 10 years, van Gogh has created over 43 self-portraits. The self-portrait on which this collector coin is directly based comes from 1887. This silver coin has an engraving that shows even the smallest details and facial features. The coin, in addition to silver, also consists of over 11 ounces of copper.  It was designed so that the obverse and reverse look as if they were painted with brushes.
