We present the coin of the "Big Five" series. This beautiful coin was struck at the Belgian Mint. The reverse shows an impressive image of a buffalo. It is a powerful mammal, which has few natural enemies (apart from man). Adult buffaloes can effectively defend themselves against a herd of African lions. Lions hunt buffaloes regularly, but usually they do so by releasing lonely specimens from their legs. The African buffalo is counted among the 'Great Five of Africa' because it is commonly considered to be a very dangerous animal: it kills several people every year in Africa. Wounded animals have been watched to ambush and chase while attacking hunters. The image is perfectly underlined by the high relief. Extremely limited mintage to only 99 pieces worldwide!
