The first coin from the new series "Mythical Creatures". This coin is a great gift idea for all mythology fans! The reverse shows an image of a cyclops emerging from a cave. The high relief makes it seem as if the cyclops is coming out of the coin! The coin was struck from 2 ounce of pure silver. To distinguish the cyclops' weapon from the background, it has been plated in gold. Cyclops were giants in Greek mythology with one eye in the middle of their foreheads, engaged in herding and building huge walls. They also worked for Hephaestus in the forge and spun lightning for Zeus. The Cyclopes did not have an easy life from the start. The first of them were thrown into Tartarus by their father -Uranos- because he feared their great strength. Kronos, also son of Uranos, freed them to help him in his fight against his father. When they were victorious, Kronos again pushed them down to the bottom of hell. When Zeus, son of Kronos, came to power, he freed the Cyclops. It was then that they forged for him a powerful weapon - lightning, thanks to which he won the war with the Titans. Cyclops also created Hades' helmet, Poseidon's trident and Artemis' bow and arrow.
