The second coin from the "Fear Tales" series.
This time it presents the fairy tale The Little Match Girl. It is one of the most famous fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. It was published in 1845, and the author created it in November, at Gråsten Castle.
It tells the story of a little girl who wanders barefoot through the city streets trying to sell matches. None of the passers-by is interested in a frozen and hungry child - everyone is only concerned about their pre-Christmas preparations. Eventually, the girl dies of cold, and none of the passers-by even notices it.
The coin is characterized by an engraving which gives a spatial view of the death. In the middle is the The Little Match Girl, which has been coloured thanks to UV printing technology. The whole has been given an antique finish, which gives the coin interesting chiaroscuro shades.
On the obverse there is a forest and the inscription "Sadly Ever After" ("They lived long and unhappy lives").
