The coin was issued to commemorate the crimes in Katyn and Palmiry that took place in 1940. On the reverse of the coin there is a likeness of Agnieszka Dowbor-Muśnicka along with a quote engraved by a prisoner in one of the cells in Aleja Szucha in Warsaw: “It is easy to talk about Poland. It's harder to work for her. It's even harder to die. And the hardest thing is to suffer. This inscription was also placed in the cemetery in Palmiry. The obverse of the coin features the image of Janina Lewandowska and a fragment of The Mother of God, the text of which was placed on the underground bell in the Katyn cemetery.
