The Gold Krugerrand is currently one of the most famous and popular investment coins in the world.This coin contains 1 ounce of gold (1 troy ounce) and is minted from 916 gold with a small admixture of copper (8.333%).This addition gives the gold Krugerrand a slightly reddish tint, and even though it is minted from one ounce of gold, its weight is slightly greater (33.93 g). What's more, this exceptional specimen comes with a certificate of authenticity. Krugerrands are produced by the South African mint, Rand Refinery. They are legal tender, backed by the South African government for their legality, metal purity, and origin. Interestingly, although Krugerrands are legal tender, they do not have a face value. This means that the South African Reserve Bank is obligated to repurchase the coins at the prevailing gold price. The obverse features the portrait of President Paul Kruger along with the inscriptions "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA". The reverse depicts a springbok antelope, the symbol of South Africa. On either side of it are the numbers representing the minting year, and below is the inscription "Fyngoud 1oz fine gold", indicating the content of pure gold.
