Mahasthamaprapta is one of the Eight Protectors in Mahayana Buddhism. A basic belief in Buddhism is that each person is born under the blessing and protection of a specific Bodhisattva (protector). Each of the eight protectors is associated with a specific animal of the zodiac and blesses all who are born in the year of that particular zodiac.  Mahasthamaprapta represents wisdom. Many cultures view wisdom as the most important virtue. A new minting technique called "Bi-Metal Max" has been used to give this coin an extraordinary weight and a diameter of 120 mm - three times that of a regular 2 ounce collector coin. This is made possible by combining 28.5 ounces of copper as the base with a top layer of 5 ounces of pure 999 silver, resulting in an ultra-high relief topped with an antique silver finish.
