Venetian masks are known all over the world for their beauty, craftsmanship and history. They blurred the differences between the inhabitants, made it possible to hide their identity, under the mask everyone was equal, the rich man and the poor man, artist and craftsman - regardless of their origin. Carnivals and masks disappeared from Venetian streets in 1797 when Napoleon's army put an end to the Republic. For years they have been waiting for their return, forgotten by the inhabitants of the city. Their rediscovery took place in 1978, when a group of students from the Academy of Fine Arts opened the first modern mask shop in Venice.
