Another coin from the "Solar System" series.
Mercury is the smallest and closest planet to the Sun in the Solar System. As the bottom planet it is always close to the Sun for an earthly observer and is therefore difficult to observe. Nevertheless, it is one of the planets visible to the naked eye and was known since ancient times. Mercury can only be seen just before sunrise or just after sunset.
Mercury's surface is similar to the Moon: it has numerous impact craters and no atmosphere. The surface temperature varies from -173 °C to 427 °C. Unlike the Moon, however, the planet has a large iron core, generating a magnetic field 100 times weaker than Earth's. Mercury has no natural satellites.
