The reverse of the coin depicts the Old Town Hall and a fragment of the Artus Court, and inside, the Cathedral Church of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist in Toruń. On the obverse there is an image of the Bridge Gate and the historical coat of arms of Toruń. The location of Toruń took place in 1233 thanks to Herman von Salz, master of the Teutonic Order. It is believed that it was the Teutonic Knights who gave birth to this city, which was the starting point for their conquest of the Prussian tribes. The town was located on the right bank of the Vistula River, on the section from the island of Liszka to the area of today's Old Toruń. The Teutonic Knights built their castle on the site of a former Slavic settlement. In 1264 the second settlement called New Town was granted town rights. Both towns were merged in 1454, while retaining the defensive walls separating them.
