The Last Supper is a wall painting by Leonardo da Vinci depicting the Last Supper, executed in the refectory (dining room) of the Dominican convent at the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. It was commissioned by the Duke of Milan, Louis Sforza. Leonardo painted the fresco between 1494 and 1498. He used an unusual technique, which proved to be impermanent - despite many restorations, the fresco is still in a bad condition (in May 1999, a great conservation of the painting was finished under the direction of Pinin Brambilli Barcilon; the conservation work lasted 21 years - seven times longer than the painting of the work). In addition, in 1652 a doorway was carved in the wall on which the painting is located, leading to the monastery kitchen, which deprived the painting of its central part including part of the table and Christ's feet - the passage was soon bricked up, but the fragment of the work was irretrievably destroyed.
This coin reproduces this extraordinary work. To keep the proportions in line with reality: the dimensions of the coin are 145 x 110 mm. It was made from a combination of 33.5 ounces of copper (as a base) with a top layer made from 2 ounces of pure silver.
