The first coin in the new "The Royal Tudor Beasts" series issued by The Royal Mint.
This series celebrates the heraldic beasts of the powerful Tudor dynasty. This is an excellent investment for all fans of numismatics and British history.
The reverse of the coin was designed by David Lawrence. The coin commemorates the marriage of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.
Tudor dynasty - the dynasty which ruled England (including Wales) from 1485 to 1603. The protoplasts of this dynasty were Owen Tudor, a descendant of Ednyfed Fychan, and Catherine de Valois, Queen of England - widow of Henry V. After Henry V's death they entered into a secret marriage and had three sons - Edmund, Jasper and Owen - and daughters. Edmund married Margaret Beaufort - their son was Henry VII Tudor. During the War of the Two Roses, Henry VII defeated Richard III of the York dynasty at the Battle of Bosworth and crowned himself king.
