Basketball is extremely popular, not only in the United States. For all its fans, CIT has released a gold coin in the shape of a basketball. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five players play against each other trying to score the most points by throwing the ball into the opposing team's basket. Basketball is considered to have originated on 21 December 1891, with James Naismith as its creator. Basketball originated in Springfield, Massachusetts, when a Protestant pastor and American physical education teacher developed a new team game. Naismith wanted to create a game that minimised physical contact but included a lot of jumping, running and the eye-hand coordination involved in having the ball in the hands.
