American football is extremely popular, not only in the United States. For all its fans, CIT has released a gold coin in the shape of a football.  It is a contact team sport that involves two teams of eleven people striving to score more points. It is the most popular sport in the United States. It should not be confused with rugby, from which it differs significantly in its rules of play. The object of the game is to score more points than the opposing team within a set time. The ball can be moved by kicking it, carrying it, throwing it or passing it from hand to hand between players. In the United States, American football is referred to as "football".The term "football" was officially established in the rulebook for the 1876 college football season, when the sport first shifted from soccer-style rules to rugby-style rules. Although it could easily have been called "rugby" at this point, Harvard, one of the primary proponents of the rugby-style game, compromised and did not request the name of the sport be changed to "rugby".
