The ever popular "Deadly and Dangerous" series features some of Australia's most fearsome creatures, with the latest release capturing the stingray.
Stingray is the general name for cartilaginous marine fish with a flat, disc-shaped body. They have blunt teeth, usually in several rows, adapted for crushing food unlike sharks which have sharp teeth adapted for cutting. Probably most species have electroreceptors. Some are able to generate electric current. In many species the tail ends in a venomous spike, often with hooks. Some species are dangerous to humans although attacks from them are extremely rare, usually as a result of being stepped on or carelessly approached.
The reverse of the coin shows a colourful image of a stingray.
The coin is presented in a high-gloss timber display case. Each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
