One such place is Florence's oldest bridge, the Ponte Vecchio.   The Ponte Vecchio is called the Bridge of Goldsmiths. It was built of stone in the years 1335-1345. In the 13th century, the first shops were set up here, first of fish and meat traders, then tanners. In 1593, by the decision of Duke Ferdinand I de' Medici, they were removed from the bridge and replaced by the workshops of jewellers and goldsmiths. The coin was struck from 28.28 g of pure silver. The reverse is decorated with an image of the colourful Bridge of Goldsmiths, on a background of the buildings of Florence. The coin was placed in an elegant display case.
