Another coin of the series "Nautical Ounce" commemorating the famous carracks, or three-mast (less four-mast) sailing ships, developed in the Mediterranean countries in the 15th century. This time we commemorate the English ship STS Sedov, the largest sailing school ship in the world. For many years it was the largest sailing ship in general, but it gave precedence to the cruise ship Royal Clipper. The sailing ship was built in 1921 at the Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft shipyard in Kiel. In addition to her training duties, she sailed as a cargo sailing ship, carrying saltpeter from Chile.  After World War II she was awarded to the USSR as part of the war reparations, as a training ship of the USSR Navy. Later it was a training ship of the Ministry of Fisheries. In 1957 it carried out hydrographic research in the Atlantic, serving as an oceanographic ship of the Academy of Sciences.  It remained the largest sailing ship in the world until (the beginning of the 1990s) the launch of the huge passenger sailing cruise ships.
