The wonderful work of the Dutch painter has made its way into the world of numismatics. This silver, two-pound coin is a perfect gift idea for every art and painting lover. The coin has been gilded, whose colour refers to the colour of sunflowers in the original painting.
At the end of the 19th century the sunflowers were very popular, they were supposed to symbolize the joy of life. Artists were also eager to use sunflowers, which at that time became a popular motif in art. Van Gogh had to come into contact with sunflower paintings during his studies in Antwerp. He made his first attempts at presenting them in Paris, where four sunflower paintings were created, but it was only in the sunshine of Provence that he managed to achieve a perfect effect.
Vincent van Gogh has repeatedly returned to the same landscapes, scenes, faces and objects. As far as sunflowers are concerned, a total of 11 works on them were created: 4 in Paris and 7 in Arles. The painting entitled "Still Life: A Vase of Twelve Sunflowers", dating from 1889, the period spent in Arles, is considered to be the most outstanding.
