Another coin from the "Legendary Warriors" series. The coin is a full legal tender of the Republic of Cameroon. It is placed in an elegant presentation case and contains a certificate of authenticity. The total circulation is limited to 999 copies worldwide. On the reverse side there is a Spartan warrior who rushes towards danger, ignoring the rain of arrows. Additional gilding and red color give the scene a dramatic touch. The obverse is stylized on the inside of the hoplite shield.The Hoplites were heavy armed infantrymen fighting in a compact formation, called a phalanx. They were a common sight on the battlefields of ancient Greece. Hoplitic troops were formed by free, wealthy citizens of Greek polis. Their success in fighting the Persian army caused that after the Persian wars the rulers of this country willingly hired Greeks to their armies. In this way, the transition from civic to hired armies spread.
