Since 1993, the National Bank of Poland has issued a series of coins "Animals of the World". Its purpose is to present animal species threatened by the developing civilization.

The obverse of the coin shows the image of the eagle established as the national emblem of the Republic of Poland.

On the reverse side there are images of a marmot with young people. The Polish name of this animal refers to the sound it makes when threatened or called.
