The Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 began on December 24th (Christmas Eve) 1999 and lasted until January 6th (Epiphany - Three Kings) 2001. In this way the Catholic Church celebrated its entry into the third millennium. The initiator of the Jubilee of the Year 2000 was Pope John Paul II. The obverse of the coin presents the image of the eagle established as the national emblem of the Republic of Poland against the background of a stylized rosette. The reverse, on the other hand, presents a cross. In the central part, the Greek letters Χ (chi) and Ρ (rho) - the monogram of Christ and Α (alpha) and ω (omega) - the early Christian symbol of Jesus Christ are combined. Between the arms of the cross there are symbols of the Evangelists: a man with the inscription "St. Matthew", a lion with the inscription "St. Mark", a bull with the inscription "St. Luke" and an eagle with the inscription "St. John".
