After 100 years since the 1924 Olympics, Paris will once again host the Summer Games in 2024. One year before their commencement, the Paris Mint continues preparations for this event by issuing coins commemorating the legacy of the Olympic Games and Paris. The Olympics are a globally significant event, with increasing worldwide interest in the years leading up to them. In recent years, several commemorative 2 euro coins have been dedicated to this occasion.
The motif of this coin features the figure of a sower (a national symbol and icon of French numismatics) practicing classical pugilism, the predecessor to boxing, in reference to the ancient Olympic Games. The silhouette of the sower is set against the backdrop of the Pont-Neuf bridge and its surroundings, distinctive to the Île de la Cité island, an important element of Paris's landscape. In the background, a track and field can be seen, with the emblem of the 2024 Paris Olympics to its right. Under the arch, on its balustrade and against the backdrop of the Seine, the year, the letters "RF," and mint marks are placed. Surrounding the coin are 12 stars from the European Union flag.
Coins in commemorative coincards, available in blue, red, yellow, purple, and green colors.
