The newest coin issued by the National Bank of Poland depicts Wrocław.
The reverse of the coin features the figures of the Dominican friar Czesław Odrowąż and Father Henry the Pious. Together with his father, Henry the Bearded, the Duke of Wrocław not only co-ruled the Lower Silesian duchy, took care of the spiritual and material development of his heritage, but was also a real contender for the crown. His death on the battlefield of Legnica thwarted these plans. Blessed Czeslaw Odrowąż is the patron saint of Wrocław, he was the founder of the monastery at St. Adalbert's Church and its first prior. Both occupy a special place in the history of the city.
The obverse features a view of the oldest part of the city, Ostrów Tumski, which is full of historic churches. Silesia together with Wrocław became part of the Polish state at the end of the reign of Mieszko I. Wrocław, since the year 1000 the capital of the bishopric, became one of the most important urban centers of the Piast monarchy.
Wrocław is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland, willingly visited by numerous tourists, not only from Poland, but also from abroad. It was the European Capital of Culture in 2016. Wrocław has the second largest market square in Poland, while being one of the largest in all of Europe. The Lower Silesian city is also distinguished by the number of bridges and footbridges - in Europe, there are more of them only in Venice, Amsterdam and St. Petersburg.
