The first coin from the series "Colourful Wildlife".
It depicts an unusual animal - a kingfisher. Kingfisher is a species of small fish-eating bird. In Poland Kingfisher is under strict species protection. The main reason for the disappearance of this small bird is the loss of habitats, mainly unnatural enclosures of reservoirs (e.g. removal of steep slopes), water pollution and disturbance caused by anglers and holidaymakers. They used to be killed for their colourful feathers and by catching fish. Protective measures include limiting hydrotechnical construction plans in river valleys, avoiding tree felling in the shoreline of rivers and lakes, correcting the profile of eroded slopes, marking out "quiet zones" on rivers with significant populations of kingfishers, and limiting human penetration of shorelines during the breeding season.
The coin was struck from 1 kilo of pure silver and its reverse was covered with a special colour printing technique "smartminting", thanks to which the image of the kingfisher is very realistic.
